MTV Music and you should buy CDs now…and this will not stop MTVs target group problem

Friday, October 31st, 2008 by Michael Altendorf

As I just read at Techdirt, there is the Weird Al Yankovic song of 2006 with a “do not download this song” , but you should buy the CD” text and the end of this song has only “*BLEEP* or *BLEEP* or *BLEEP* or *BLEEP*” instead of mentioning the pages where you get these songs ilegally. What the hell does MTV think. That everybody know uses only there new video download because the do not mention these name? ( I support Mike Masniks opinion here)

How to start a Social Network

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 by Michael Altendorf

As I am currently working for www.earthfaves.com we are thinking about how to get people involved in our platform.

The problem is, also when you get people onto the site, how to get the “stickiness”.

I did a lot of research and here are some interesting links on this topic.

FastForward blog on what to do

Forrester Blogger Jeremiah on the social network recession

He also recommended a free report on interactive marketing

a very good picture comes from Standford university

there is also a book “Social Network Business Plan Strategies”

And a intersting drawing by Andrew – how metacalfe’s law work against you

Here is a nice presentation on “social network best practices” at Slideshare

Featured Artist Coalition vs Music flaterates

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 by Michael Altendorf

http://www.featuredartistscoalition.com/index.html

As it was  announced this week the Featured Artist Coalition (FAC – by the way not the best acronym) will fight for the rigths of the musicians and bands who are currently excluded when the industry is negotiating with Nokia, Napster etc and their new flaterates which dumping the musicians work.

On the one hand the label do not have a real big chance to win back to lost field customers’ trust which is more  a desert now, but on the other hand flaterates and 360degree deals are also no solution.

So here comes the next player in the game. A big group of famous muscicians who want to be part of the next negotiations. Well known names such as R. Williams, Radiohead, Richard Ashcroft or Iron Maiden are member of this coalition. It is like the who is who of the british pop& rock scene. The market in Britian is already highly competitive and more open than the German one. So also every part of the pie now starts claiming their rights. Other countries could see this as a test market where the industry is leading to in the future.
