DMEXCO 2009 in Cologne

A few weeks ago we visited the DMEXCO in Cologne which was an informative and colorful event- not only in respect of business information but also regarding innovative food such as very hot chilli-winegums. Arriving at the DMEXCO hungry for mental and substantial nourishment, especially the latter could be satisfied with all the fancy and delicious nibbles the stalls provided. Though, not only food for free but also all other kinds of stuff you don’t really need but instantly want, as soon as you see it, was there to get. The only thing you were looking for in vain was WLAN access to the internet which seems to be a bit weird for an exhibition that was all about ‘online’.
As to the actual ‘important’ parts of the exhibition and despite little flaws, it was easily observable that the DMEXCO attracted much attention and many visitors and has successfully mastered its premiere. With lots of presentations and seminars on the future of online advertising, the hot topic was definitely video ads. Beside the ‘wearing-close-to-nothing’-bunnies, there is, who were probably way hotter and more interesting to most of the male visitors than speeches about social platforms that are headed south anyway.
Various debates and seminars about online-marketing, social platforms, mobile internet, etc. were offered to the interested visitor who actually wanted to find out more about the field. Among other things, we listened to a debate on targeting competition, discussing who should be the one to target and who does it best (marketer, media agency or social network). In the end everyone agreed that no one does it the right way….Unfortunately not much on new targeting technologies was discussed and exposed which was a bit disappointing for us but on the other hand it gave us a good feeling about our future leading position regarding this area.
Worth mentioning were the parties in the evening with fancy music and even more food (with special thanks to ‘Springer’ who seems to have had a fusion with Dr. Oettker and provided an incredible amount of Pizza). Not to forget drinks for free. Especially ‘Yahoo’ had delicious cocktails in a trendy ambient and took great care of its clients. And some stranger forgot his/her ‘Yahoo’ – gift-bag under our seat, which made us feel like it was Christmas already….
