Is Compiere loosing its community?

http://red1.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=931

The community is moving to Adempiere due to fears about selling Compiere under proprietary license.. good for SAP,  bad for Compiere…

    Michael,

That discussion happened back in September 2006 and had as a result the creation of a fork named ADempiere ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/adempiere/ )

ADempiere is the most active open source project in sourceforge and has developed in these 8 months many new features and resolved dependency on closed products and services.

    Should SAP be concerned?…

At the moment I not concerned…I am more in the phase …what the hell is a developer doing in his freetime? And who is this guy? Is he looking like Stallmann or Shuttleworth?

    Micheal,

I am a 51 years old business person that dedicated 20 years to selling and implementing proprietary ERP solutions in Latin America but swithced to Open Source ERP solutions 4 years ago because I smelled the chasm.
    Stallmann or Shuttleworth?
    Definitively Shuttleworth

ADempiere is going after the SMB market. SAP can ignore it now, laugh about it later or be concerned in the future but it will be too late… or may be not… I do not have a crystal ball.

    Nice blog Michael.

    Regards

Now, I am inviting to merge with Open Bravo and Compiere. Hell, I have nothing else to do with all this free time.

Hope this is “good for SAP”.

Not sure if I am the right person to decide how much market share OSS ERP will reach in 5 years. I see definitely chances in the small market due to the thought that if I start a small company I will not have the budget to buy high end solution, and also I do not need them…
Hm, but at the moment I am writing my diploma thesis about taxiation of virtual reality but have no idea to start a company…but perhaps I should sell support&services for software.
..If anyone has an idea for my first company tell me! Merger of Open Bravo and Compiere…good idea..
